The last regular domestic train which operated via Ukraine was Warszawa - Zagórz via Przemyśl
and Khyriv (in some of previous seasons operated to Jasło).
As fair as I remember the last year of operation was 1993/1994.

Vielen Dank!

Inwieweit ist die Strecke grenzüberschreitend noch in Betrieb?

Wofür sind Kontrollen auf den Abschnitten innerhalb Polens erforderlich?

The whole section Przemyśl - Zagórz via Khyriv on 1435 mm is not used for passenger operation after 2010.
Before 2010 - the western half - from Khyriv to Zagórz and further remained in operation. The cross-border local train(s) Khyriv - Jasło (in some of years Khyriv - Zagórz, in some of years operated 2 pairs per day) operated. While the north-eastern half Przemysl - Khyriv had been abandoned since 1994.

Short sections between Zagórz and Kroscienko are partially utilized by excursions on rail-cycle draisines
[www.drezynyrowerowe.pl]
I personally ridden by on rail cycle draisine from Ustrzyki Dolne to Kroscienko and back in Summer 2019, also I must say it was very fancy experience.

The 1520 mm track on domestic part of this line within Ukraine (Nyzhankovychi - Khyriv - Starzhava) was used by local trains Sambir - Starzhava and Sambir - Nyzhankovychi before COVID. Those trains had been suspended in middle of March 2020 due to covid and still not returned to operation, but probably will be re-activated when quantity of COVID incidents in Lviv region will become smaller.

Also the former dual gauge 1435/1520 mm section Nyzhankovychi - Khyriv had been rebuilt to 1520 mm (i.e. there is no 1435 mm railway on this section anymore) in mid 1990-ties due to horrible state of tracks of both gauges and dramatic lack of funds for repairs. UZ decided to remove 1435 mm rails on this section to make the keeping 1520 mm track in operational state cheaper.

On section Khyriv - Starzhava - both 1435 mm and 1520 mm rails still exist, but 1435 mm is not used after 2010.

In the times when the through train Warsaw - Zagórz/Jasło existed - it had no stops in Ukraine (the same order, as it was before 1991, in USSR times). So there were no border/custom formalities for passengers. But the cars of this train had bars on windows and border guards ridden inside the train - 4 standing near each door inside the train to ensure that nobody will attempt to jump on or jump-off the train while it goes via Ukraine.

While local trains from Khyriv to Zagórz/Jasło was completely other story, it was the separate service. Obviously with border and custom formalities from both sides. The quantity of passengers wishing to cross border here dramatically decreased in 2003 when the requirement of visa was introduced for those Ukrainians who travel to Poland (because Poland prepared to become EU member in 2004) and once more in 2008 (when Poland joined Schengen area and thus more severe requirements for application for visa took into action). So the train operated cross-border empty, carrying in most cases either nobody or few smugglers, finally it was permanently canceled in 2010. The significant quantity of normal (non-smugglers) passengers traveled in this train during last years of it's operation only few days per year - on second week after Easter in memorial days.
